Taking a Quick Look at Some Gambling Games

Gambling is the betting or staking of something of value, with awareness of risk and expectation of gain, on the result of a game of which may be determined by chance or accident or has an unexpected result by reason of the bettor's miscalculation.

Backgammon The parent of all track board games, backgammon is perhaps the oldest game with dice still being played. The French and German call it Tric-Trac, the Italians Tavola reale (royal table). The derivation of the word Backgammon has been ascribed to the Welsh words back and gammon (little battle) and to the Saxon bac and gamen (back game).

Two persons play and each has a pair of dice and a cup plus one doubling die. There are 30 playing counters called men, 15 of one color and 15 of another (usually black and white). The players sit on opposite side of a board that contains 24 alternately colored triangles called points, 12 opposite each player.

Bingo The game is played with cards that have squares with numbers matching to numbered balls picked randomly and won by covering five such squares in a row.

Blackjack It is the single most popular casino card game. Derived from 15th and 16th century European card games, it has an extreme simplicity in the mechanics of play. The underlying principle is to assemble cards whose value does not exceed 21 and to bet on the probability of the player or the bank being successful.

Casino Casino provides a variety of gambling games to choose from: card games, dice games, roulette and slot machines.

Roulette A game played by players betting on which compartment of a revolving wheel a small ball will come to rest in. The game begins when one of the dealers in attendance calls "Make your bets." The players begin making their bets by placing chips on the spaces of the layout, on any number, group, or classification they hope will win.

Slots A coin-operated gambling machine that pays off according to the matching of symbols on wheels spun by a handle, slot machines are a mainstay of casinos and also found in thousands of private clubs, restaurants and other establishments. They are common in other countries where they are known as Poker machines and also called as fruit machines.

Poker The object of this game is to acquire cards that have a prescribed scoring value. The group of cards should be in sequence or of the same rank, and the best hand, determined by arbitrary rules, wins. Players bet on their chances. If the highest bet is unchallenged, the hands are not exposed. Bluffing therefore is an important element.
